About Us
La Coccinelle is a French immersion preschool in Northwest Calgary, Alberta with programs for 3 to 5 year olds. The school is run on a non-profit, co-operative basis by experienced teachers, a volunteer board and parent helpers. La Coccinelle offers a carefully planned program of learning experiences for children in both structured and unstructured activities that contribute to their physical, social and intellectual development. Children are encouraged to learn at their own pace through free play, games, music, preschool activities and crafts. In this fun environment the students are introduced to the French language through a daily routine with a responsive teacher.
Teachers
Mme. Stéphanie Carlisle
Stéphanie is naturally gifted to communicate and to interact with children. That is what led her to become a professional in education first as a youth leader and recreation centre director, then as a teacher. She has developed learning strategies based on games, theatrical activities, and body movements to encourage children to interact, and respect each other. She also uses her creative skills to teach and to encourage children with special needs. She is bilingual in English and French. French being her mother tongue Stéphanie is eager to provide French immersion to 3 and 4 year old students.
Mme. Nancy Cooper
Nancy attended McMaster University where she received her degree with a major in English and a minor in Drama. After completing University, Nancy travelled to Japan to teach English to kindergarten students. She learned many important skills about teaching a second language, including the value of using songs and drama to engage students in language learning. After returning from Japan, Nancy attended Althouse Teacher´s College where she obtained her Bachelor of Education and her training to teach core French as a second language. Following College, she began her teaching career in which she taught a variety of subjects to all ages, including math, language, music, social studies, health, drama and French for six years. A year and a half ago she got married and moved to Calgary with her husband. Since then she has worked one-on-one with students that have special needs and has also been a popular substitute teacher for Charter schools. She is very happy to be working with preschool students and also using her French everyday.
